We have created a beta version of the Online Archive on Facebook named: ‘Bengal to Bangladesh: A Letter Trail (link)’  and uploaded scanned letters that the editors have already found. Some are available in the public domain due to the expiry of copyright while others are cited with due attribution. Please send in your scanned letters ( in color, 300 dpi resolution, .JPEG file) to bengaltobangladesh@gmail.com, mentioning your name, contact details, the author of the letter(s), the date on which it was written and/or sent, bibliographic information (if any), how you came across the letter, and a short description (less than 100 words) of why the letter is of note or of particular interest. You will receive separate e-mails confirming receipt of the submission and its acceptance. We will endeavor to upload the submission onto the Facebook group and website within 48 hours of the acceptance e-mail. The letter will always be accompanied with a caption acknowledging the author, the copyright holder if different, the date the letter was written and/or sent and a brief description of the contents of the letter and why it is of note or particular interest.

While the editorial board will consider every submission that is sent to us, and will take a broad approach to accepting them, we reserve the right to reject submissions. The editorial board also reserves the right to draft the caption to the letters in a manner that it thinks best presents the information clearly, concisely, accurately and attractively.

Placing in the Public Domain:

This Archive will be run on a non-profit, non-commercial basis and, as indicated in its objectives, will operate on principles of open access. Hence, the Archive will not solicit financial contributions nor pay royalties, fees or costs for submissions.

In the case of an unpublished letter, please additionally provide us written confirmation that the author, their legal heir or the owner of the letter has given you permission to place the document in the public domain.

In the case of a published letter, please be aware that if you are not the author of the document, their legal heir or authorized agent, and the author is still alive or has died less than 60 years ago, you must provide the author or their legal heir’s written and signed consent for placing the letter in the public domain. Moreover, if the letter has been published in a book, newspaper etc. and you are submitting a published copy of the letter rather than a scan of the original document, please check if the copyright has been assigned/transferred, if a new copyright subsists with the publisher and whether copyright has lapsed. A good rule of thumb is to look at the publishing information in the publication and the date and city of publication. If you have further questions, please write to the editorial team or consult the Copyright Act 2000 [Bangladesh] and the relevant rules and regulations applicable thereto.
